I have been wondering why so many gays and lesbians have been trying to be accepted by the church. I can understand why they want to have the same rights as heterosexuals; to marry, to live their own lives without anyone judging them, to raise children and just have a normal happy life. But why the need to be part of a religion that condemns any lifestyle, free thinking, creative approach to life, that does not fit the dogma of their belief system?
This question goes far deeper than mere sexual preference or lifestyle. It goes to the heart of the problem humankind has faced for thousands of years: What is reality? Is religion real? Is god real? Are we real?
The church will tell you it is written in their holy book that God hates gays and lesbians. (Please check out http://ffrf.org/bquiz.html ) However, their God is also supposed to be the creator of all and that humankind is created in the image and likeness of God. This sounds like a pretty psychotic God who has some gender issues him/herself. If we are made by this dream image called God, then why did he create some people he hates? Or is God gay/lesbian? If this so-called God can be so confused in His/Her mind in matters dealing with sexual preference, then what other areas of his being is also distorted? If God is so all powerful and loving as the church would have you believe, and you take a look at what is happening in the world, then it is clear this All mighty God is either mentally ill or a very cruel being. Or, the truth, nonexistent.
Of course, it is clear to anyone with the guts to face the truth and really come to some insight into all of this it becomes obvious that God did not create man in his image, that man created God in his image. All the petty minded neurosis we see in humans became the God of religion. Do you really want to belong to a religion based in such nonsense?
Lately there has been this debate as to whether gays/lesbians should have the right to marry. Who is going to judge this? Does anyone, any religion, any government have the right to tell anyone what they can or cannot do in such matters of the heart? Of course they don't, no one has that right, least of all governments and religions. Now the White House is backing a constitutional amendment to stop all gay marriages. By what right do they think they can do this? Is this not as foolish as one can get? Is this a free country with equal rights for all? Or are we free to do only what a narrow-minded religion tells us we can do?
This is clearly another ego game of control and judgment on the part of a conservative Church/State and those individuals who have not really thought about this to any depth. There cannot be real justice in this world as long as it is controlled by the ego.
You may be asking yourselves, "Is Melvyn gay?" No I am not. This is not about my personal feelings; it is about justice and reality. It is close to home for me though, my son is gay. I have seen how he and other gays have been treated throughout my lifetime and it is appalling. My son did not choose to be gay, no one does. He has the same needs for love and companionship as anyone else. It is not his fault that he is attracted to the same sex. People say, "It is unnatural to be gay." What is natural? We have at least 10 percent of the population either gay or lesbian. If it is so unnatural then why so many? If by unnatural people mean gays/lesbians cannot reproduce, then so what? With the problems we see in the world with over population, perhaps being gay is the best way for nature to keep things in balance.
Are we not more than reproduction machines? Do not all people have feelings of love? Do we not all suffer in the same ways? Should gays and lesbians be denied any of the rights that we all share just because they are different? At one time, not long ago, it was our black brothers and sisters who were denied their rights, and the Native Americans, woman, children, the Chinese, Irish, and on and on throughout history. In my lifetime, it was illegal for interracial marriages to take place. Those who were in control were driven by the same insanity there is today, the ego.
I hope all my brothers and sisters who are gay and lesbian will really take a good look at the religions they hope to be accepted by and deny their power over them in any way. Set yourselves free from the dream of ego and live your lives in sanity and love. Those who would hold you to their patterns of reality are functioning from insecurity, which distorts everything they perceive. They are not evil people, just misguided and afraid. No one in his or her right mind would choose to be that way. They are just lost in their conditioning. May they all awaken to the simple fact that we are all One Being.
