There are different ways of seeing what the ego is and how if functions. Time is one of those ways. Not chronological time, but psychological, the illusion within time is the culprit.
We live in the past and the future. This all seems quite normal and natural to most of us. We remember back when and we believe we can foresee the future well enough to make plans, etc. Few see how this process of seeing can create a false sense of self. That false sense is the ego. The ego does not exist in this moment. When we stop to think about this, we think we are in the moment looking at this and seeing whatever is there. This is still within time because the seeming entity looking at it is just time, as memory. To really see in any given moment is a rare experience. We sometimes see clearly in the moment when faced with some shock, i.e., the death of a close one, an emergency, or even the smelling of a tree. However, within a split second we react to what has happened with a thought based in memory and identification with the "me".
When we go for a walk in nature and come to that feeling of oneness with life, we are transported momentarily into the timeless. We are renewed and refreshed. It moves us deeply and then we remember it and what to hold on to it, thus killing the moment by returning to time.
Life is not in that psychological structure. However, the ego, which is insecurity, can't let go for too long and must make some movement to reassure itself that it is indeed something real. This is when the timeless becomes a memory. We remember millions of seeming facts and project those images into the future and we call that life. It is a form of sleep walking. We dream ourselves into a story of our life and think this is reality. It is not.
In science we see proof that time is an illusion, yet even scientist still speak of time as real, the forth dimension. I don't know how many of you have read about how if we send out twin photons in opposite directions and we polarize one of them, the other reacts instantly no matter how far apart they are. If time were real, this could not happen. In addition, within our own experience, when we foresee an event that has not happened yet, we are seeing now, the timeless. The event may not take place until some seeming time in the future, yet we see it clearly. This has happened in my experience many times. Just saying what that last sentence said, is an example of how dualistic our language is, being based in the ego dream. However, we need to use some means of expressing our understanding.
In this moment, the ego does not exist. There really is no experience. There is just this Suchness, taking place moment by moment, which is always timeless. Within this timelessness is our Being. There is no death to this moment and no death to this Being. Yet, all images about this moment are death. Even after awakening, we will feel that we are experiencing things, the experience is understood and we know the limits of that seeming experience. Life is ever changing within infinite Being and we are that Being. Therefore, it is really awareness, aware of Itself. This is a very different state than what the ego dream seems to experience. The Experience of Life is free of insecurity. There is no fear of death. The only death we will ever know is the death of the dream of ego. From then on we Know, without knowing, that we are Life Itself.
Step out of time and don't bring your memory with you. It is always already done. We are right now, this ever present moment, what we will be and have been forever. There is nothing new to be found here but reality Itself. The only thing that has happened is that the dream is seen through and the fact became clear. In that Clarity, we are that One Being, the only One there will ever be. No you, just Life.
